Sports Psychology

Sports Psychology at Dr. Reid Daitzman, Ph.D.

I AM HERE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR CURRENT SITUATION.

Most top players or those striving to remain on top use a sport psychologist. There is no stigma. In fact, it is almost just the opposite, an expectation of enlightened coaches and management. What you will learn is part of your preparation for play. If you play one of these sports I can make a difference.

  • Tennis

  • Baseball

  • Basketball

  • Olympic Trials

  • Olympics

  • Golf

  • Football

  • Soccer

  • Hockey

If you are a professional athlete or an elite player and are striving to improve, then these interventions will make a powerful, immediate difference. Your opponents may have had access to these kinds of services, so why not prepare as just one more aspect of your game?

Sport psychology (mental toughness during play) links the mental/emotional/physical aspects of a sport. At the top levels physical is about the same, so it is the mental and emotional that make a difference during play. This is where “sport psychology” comes in. It also links with “behavioral medicine" (see other services). I am the author of five books in that field.

I have worked with elite high school and college and professional tennis players, football players, baseball players, soccer players, golf players and basketball players. I founded the “Mental Toughness” Program at the Ivan Lendl Tennis Center in Banksville, New York. I have also worked with pre-Olympic athletes seeking a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Finally, I worked and informally consulted with Bart Starr, MVP Superbowls I and II, and the Green Bay Packers.

My goals include recognizing what aspects of the game cause a problem and overcoming it. In tennis, it might be the serve or closing out a set. In football, it might be execution. In basketball, it might be a foul shot. The principles are the same across sports. If you are motivated to improve, I will help.

My program is highly focused and particular to you. The proof is in the pudding. What was a problem is no longer a problem and you perform better across a variety of conditions, can recognize in real time a potential problem and deal with it before it disrupts your performance.
